Why Donate?

Our Loved Ones and Nursing Homes Need Your Help.

According to the American Health Care Association and National Center for Assisted Living (AHCA/NCAL) which represents more than 14,000 non-profit and proprietary skilled nursing centers, assisted living communities, sub-acute centers and homes for individuals with intellectual and development disabilities, Medicaid, the primary payer for nursing homes that covers more than 60 percent of all nursing home residents and approximately 50 percent of costs for long term care services has been underfunding the costs of these facilities across the country, leaving 65% of facilities operating at a loss. This underfunding coupled with the rising inflation and increasing populations of those needing care is creating a massive shortage of places that specialize in providing long term care and assistance to those who need it. The skilled nursing facilities that are able to make it by have to do so with substantial budget cuts, resulting in continued use of outdated equipment, with thought process that having broken equipment is better than having none.

This underfunding causes skilled nursing environments to increase the prices of their services, making healthcare incredibly expensive and unobtainable by many. In fact, of the amount of people that suffer a health event which causes them to stay at a skilled nursing facility and transition into the long term care system, 22% do not have sufficient insurance coverage, meaning they pay out of pocket an average of $8,200 a month to receive the care they need for the rest of their lives. That's $98,000 a year. This unexpected and unreasonably expensive cost causes many to not only lose their life savings but to bankrupt their families as well.

While we at Cuidar Community strive to educate on financial awareness and planning around assisted living/long term care system in order to prevent insanely costly experiences, your contribution in the form of donations of goods significantly helps those currently going through this traumatic and expensive transition. Together we can create a community of health built on one principle: to care.
